Good Intentions

Good intentions are a great way to start a week. Or a weekend really. I’m going to do this, I’m going to do that, and I mustn’t forget to do that other thing. Really good intentions, and I’m feeling it, and wanting to get to work… and then show time. What starts off as an attempt to work down a mental to do list, starts by the mental chase of butterflies, sparkly things and other very distracting things. Why do something you don’t really want to do, if you could watch that movie you meant to see but didn’t get a chance to. Or, one that’s been my favourite, starting a task and gettingdistracted by the shining beacon of sparkling distraction that is a book on the nightstand. Fast forward two hours and any good intentions were gone for the day!

I can’t be the only one who is genuinely affected by this condition.

I’m particularly good at this, and despite being a woman, the multitasking gene has clearly been forgotten in me. I can sometimes barely manage one task in go one, let alone multiple. (Can’t multitask and extremely easily distracted, Clara how do you put up with me?!)

This is something that has been a common theme for us. Starting something with good intentions and five films, eight shows, and three books further… I think the pattern is clear. Despite it being a common occurrence, when we really set our minds to it, we can move mountains. We just need that reminder from time to time. Which we get, and we’re back to riding on a wave of progression, and the realisation of just how much we can get done, if we put our minds to it, and put our time to it.

This weekend we made up for some of the lost time. Perhaps the things we’ve done to progress have kept us moving in the same place, but it sparked conversations and even though we didn’t move forward, it gave us a direction.

Then came the Time Ninja’s, that ruin everything ever. Also Mondays. Whoever invented either of those, you should be ashamed of yourself.

The blog post is a day late. Something we have been comparatively good with? It comes with a question mark because I know I’ve forgotten a few more this year but I think I’ve improved since last year. We both had that moment this morning of ‘uuuuh…. we kind of forgot…’ Not a good thing if you’re sharing blogs every Sunday, but a good sign for us. We were so engrossed in what we were doing during the day, and perhaps enjoying the treat of two good movies a little bit too much!
